Find the Right Work Environment to Nourish Your Potential
Nurturing Your Potential Genius
You may want to check out a book by David Shenk, “The Genius in All of Us.” One interesting fact he presented is that your environment helps shape who you are. If your environment provides the opportunities for you to work hard, practice and be who you naturally are, your potential genius and greatness can develop.
The good news is that if you are looking for a new position or lost your job, now is a great time to look at who you want to be and find an environment that will support you and your personality style. Make sure you find a supportive environment, where your values match and leadership encourages the kind of work you want and where you can be your personal best.
Sometimes we are under that false assumption that if we work hard we can create anything we want. Hard work is one contributing factor. However, other factors contribute to your success too – such as your work environment, it plays a significant partnership role in your success.
Looks like the old saying “You can’t fight city hall” has a kernel of truth. For you to reach your genetic potential genius and greatness you must find a good match with your personality style and your new environment.
When you are misaligned with your environment, one that works against you, or has opposing values, your success rate may drop radically. That makes sense; however, it is can be overlooked as you set out to create success in your career.
Evaluate what is important to you. When you start your job search, keep in mind that you are looking for a good match. Research your potential employer’s company values. Feel free to ask questions at the appropriate time during your interviews. Check out company profiles online and in books. Find companies that will support the kind of work that fits you. Grow together, with your new employer, and create success for both you and your employer. Go for it.
