What do you do when your boss or company cuts your commission because you have achieved too much and are making too much money for their own comfort?
I wish this story was unusual or one that we never hear, however, if this is happening to you, you are not alone. To be honest, I cannot understand why a boss would even consider this idea, because it seems like he/she is shooting down his or her own success and the success of the company. However, it can happen and if this is happening to you - what if you considered this as a potential opportunity to move forward into an even better position. The good news is we hear that outcome too, from people who have walked this same road as you may be walking right now.
When bad things happen to good people, it is time to re-imagine your life potential. What if some day you look back, and you say to your friend or spouse, “Wow, I am glad that happened. Look at where we are now.”
We have worked with enough clients to know this happens. Stop beating your head against a wall. Stop and listen. Stop and re-evaluate what you want and where you want to be and go after it. You are probably good at that anyway. Now use that gift for your own advancement. There are no real excuses for unjust behavior. Take this experience as a signal that something better lies ahead on the road for you.
Take the time to re-imagine exactly what you want and go for it. There has never been a better time than now. Don’t listen to statistics. Listen to your heart. Assess your talents and abilities. Put your ducks in a row. Find the kind of place that honors your talents, both financially and psychologically.
Make sure your resume, cover letter and other job search documents are as hot as you are and start your search. There is a better job out there for you. Companies are looking for talent like you.
