Science is delivering some great new insights on happiness. We all want to be happy, however sometimes it can feel like life delivers us more unhappiness than we may like. The good news is you can sweeten your life with more joy with some simple changes.

Scientists are discovering the plasticity of our brains and how what we DO can make a difference in how we feel. We can change our minds and change our lives. Changing our minds is sometimes easier than we thought. Here are a few tips to help you create more happiness and joy in your life, especially during stressful times, like looking for a job.

  • Gratitude is a way of being that initiate’s greater happiness.

  • Consider giving away some of your time or something to someone who has a need greater than your own. You will benefit someone else and yourself in the process.
  • Send thank you notes to people who have given you something, including a favor. This promotes goodwill with others and creates avenues for greater happiness for you too.
  • After you have appropriately felt your feelings of sadness or grief, distract yourself and listen to some music that makes you feel happy. This will makes changes in your brain and begin the process of creating greater personal happiness for you.
  • Move, just move around, dance, jog, ride a bike. The simple act of movement creates happiness in your brain and in your life.

Try one of these tips and begin to create more happiness in your life, even during difficult times.
