Re-Imagine Your Career and Move Forward
Turn Your Job Search Vision into Reality

From the “Winter 2010” edition of Harvard Business Review – “OnPoint – Turn Your Vision Into Reality,” I want to share three quotes that may inspire you as you create your job search plan.
You may realize the importance of having a vision for moving forward, in your business. Now, you can apply that skill to your job search.
First let's look at the quotes from the Harvard Business article.
- “Vision doesn’t come from divine inspiration. It comes from research, thoughtful discussion, reaching out, and looking inward.”
- “Think hard about what business you are really in-about what customers need, not just what products to sell them.
- “In times of uncertainty – a clear mission and consistent message – is what attracts and motivates followers.”
These are quotes referring to a visionary leader and business; however, you can apply these concepts to your re-entry into the workforce, or in landing a job more suitable and rewarding.
Think about who you are, what you really want and how you can help a company achieve their goals. This seems simple but what is difficult is taking the time to reflect, research and define a clear mission for your job search and a consistent message about how you can and will help your potential employer solve issues and move forward, with you on their team, utilizing your experience and education. Reflect and gather your history. Reframe it with a new vision of what you want and where you want to go now.
Take the time to dig for the gold in your background. Know yourself. Research companies – Know what they need and how you can help. Simple? Yes. Time consuming? Yes. Worth it? Yes.
Make sure your resume, cover letter and other job search documents are polished and well written. This is not the time to use a template, or have your friend, family member or neighbor write your resume. Be the best. Show your best.
