Since it is Valentine’s Day, why not honor this day of love. Love is grand. Not only is it the elixir of romance it has numerous healing benefits. Following your bliss, as Joseph Campbell used to say. It is the key to happiness in your work and life.
If you are out of work, or unhappy in your present job, why not consider what you want to do with your life. Even if you don’t have a clue what you may want to do, no problem. Clues lie within your feelings. Consider asking yourself these questions.
- What kind of person do you want to be?
That may sound strange; however, instead of asking yourself what you may want to do, start with asking yourself what kind of person you want to be. Allow this answer to guide you.
- Is there anyone in your life doing something you would love to do?
- What are the qualities and skills expressed in this job?
Don’t worry if you don’t have the exact skills. Start brainstorming. Let your mind wander. You may come up with some alternative ideas, or be inspired to get more training.
- What do you love about yourself?
- What do others love about you? (Make sure these things suit your personality)
- What interests or passions may be lurking just under the surface of your awareness?
Take time out and let your mind wander as you consider these questions. Consider making it a goal to discover a job you would love. Not only will you feel happier, you will create all kinds of great inner rewards, including better physical health.
You are worth the time and effort. Consider going on a self-exploration journey and discover your best. If you find this difficult, take small steps. For instance, decide to notice the next time you feel joy. Joy is a solid clue revealing your passions. Paying attention can pay off great dividends for you.
Whatever you decide - be gentle with yourself. When you’re are ready to move forward and land your next job, consider investing in a professional resume, cover letter and other job search documents. This is not the time to provide anything less than your best. Remember, you are worth it. You must stand out from the crowd.
Bob and I wish you the best in your career search. Feel free to email or call if you have any questions about your resume, cover letter or other job search documents.
