Tips for Landing the Job You Want

This is great advice for the job seeker. Looking for a new job for most people requires learning new skills. Looking for a job is a job. The more prepared you are, the greater your chances of landing the job you want.
What do you need to master your job search?
- A thorough understanding of your accumulated job skills, talents and abilities
- A Resume, Cover Letter and other job search documents highlighting your job experience - You must stand out
- A basic understanding of the interviewing process – Be prepared with answers to potential questions
- A positive attitude – and likeability
- A job search strategy that includes the tremendous resources on the Internet
- Check out Indeed.com for tons of jobs gathered from many sources
- Utilize social media to market yourself, like LinkedIn, Monster.com, and Facebook etc
- Let anyone and everyone you know you are looking for a job
- Have a thirty to sixty second blurb you have practiced to let people know what your skills are and what kind of job you are looking for
- Email your friends and let them know you are in the job market. Don’t overload your friends, keep your email short and simple - however consider attaching your resume and cover letter in case they want to read more about you
- Hire yourself full time and spend time everyday checking out job possibilities, via the Internet or any other sources
- Hand-deliver your resume and cover letter if you have a lead
- Make a note of the correct spelling of the person you interviewed with and any one you meet, including the receptionist
- Write a hand-written thank you note on a nice “Thank-You” note card
- Keep a written log of who you send a resume to, with correct spelling of names and date you sent the resume
- Keep a written log of your interview conversations
- Weave in hope and fun
- Nurture your relationships
- Receive the support you need
These are a few ideas to get you started. Strategize with an infusion of hope and you will succeed!
