Get Hired

Yes, You Can Land the Job You Want

What do “winners” do to achieve success?

What does it takes to make a successful career transition or find a new job?  I found some great new research from a book called “The Winners Brain – 8 Strategies Great Minds use to Achieve Success” by Jeff Brown and Mark Fenske (with Liz Neporent) that may help you in your job search. We can learn and follow their example.

If you are unemployed or unhappy in your work and looking for a new position, it helps to create for yourself the best possible scenario you can so you give yourself every opportunity to land the new job you want.

What can we learn from “winners”? One thing they do is they take care of the DETAILS. They break down their long-term goals into every day concrete details. Then they actually do those sometimes-mundane things to reach their ultimate goal. Even if you already know this, it is fun to see research prove how right you are!

Think about the actual job duties you love the most and create a job description for your perfect job. Then go for it.

Make sure your resume is the best and most professional it can be. This is not the time to be shy. Invest in yourself. You are important. You are valuable. Tackle the mundane details of the job search - that is what will carry you to your dream job. Enjoy the ride. What will carry you forward is to define everyday step-by-step goals. Seize the day!

When you carry out your concrete daily goals, such as getting all your job search documents in order, updating your resume (make sure it is top notch!) and writing your cover letter (make sure it is well written and intriguing) you are preparing yourself for success. In addition to your resume and cover letter, be prepared with your reference list, your salary history (if this applies to you), your thank-you letter, your follow-up letter, your recruiter letter (if this applies to you), and last but not least, your text resume (for copying and pasting on the Internet).  Create and prepare for your job search success and hit the job trail.

Check out Indeed.com, CareerBuilder.Com and Monster.com.  Go beyond what is normal and spend at least one hour a day applying for jobs that spark your interest. Consider spending even more time if you can. Think about the job search as if you are hiring yourself either part or full-time and go for what you want. The more effort you put into your job search, the better your chances of landing the job of your dreams. That makes perfect sense. Take the driver’s seat of your life.

Bob and I wish you great success in finding and landing the job of your dreams, step by concrete step!
